GSTP Swiss made watches have 15 jewel movements although there are some American made ones that have just 9 jewels. They have the serviceman’s number to whom the watch was issued and the broad arrow of the Ministry of Defence. (General Service Trade Pattern or as some people incorrectly call them General Service Time Piece) - watches were issued by the Ministry of Defence in the Second World War. The company was taken over by the Jenny family in 1997 and the headquarters moved to its new home in Biel (Bienne). The Doxa Watch company is now world renowned for its Dive watches many with the unique orange Dials - (a colour which tests have shown to be the easiest seen when under water). George had died in 1936 and the company was taken over by his son-in-law Jacques Nardin and re-named Manufacture des Montres Doxa. In 1910 the company was renamed as The Doxa Watch Factory.īy the time this watch was made, in the late 1930’s, Doxa employed several hundred people. This was taken up and used by the famous Italian car maker Bugatti. As well as a watchmaker he was a car enthusiast and in 1907 patented an eight day watch with the wind at 6.00 o’clock to be used in car dashboards.
Ducommun (1868 - 1936) started working as an apprentice at a small watch company at the age of 12 and by the time he was 20 he founded his watch making factory in Chateau des Monts. He was from a large family in Le Locle in the Swiss Jura - the centre of watchmaking in Switzerland. Georges Ducommun Fabriques Doxa was founded in 1889 by George Ducommun.
